Bryn Spejcher, 32, visited O’Melia’s house on May 27, 2018, and the two of them smoked multiple hits from a bong containing marijuana. Authorities stated that Spejcher suffered from Cannabis-Induced Psychotic Disorder as a result of an adverse reaction to the marijuana as he brutally stabbed her boyfriend over 100 times, killing him. According to officials, she also repeatedly stabbed herself.
She had only been dating O’Melia for a few weeks when it was discovered that he had given O’Melia 108 stab wounds with three separate knives.
Last month, Bryn Spejcher was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of her boyfriend and accountant Chad O’Melia, 26. It was proven that she had- what experts call Cannabis-Induced Psychotic Disorder.
Robert Schwartz, the attorney of the woman who fatally stabbed her boyfriend more than 100 times, and the victim’s father, Sean O’Melia, spoke out following the verdict.

When the police arrived at the home, they discovered O’Melia lying in a pool of blood and Spejcher, still clutching a knife, screaming frantically. According to officials, Spejcher stabbed herself in the neck with the knife as they attempted to disarm her. Police had to use a baton and a taser to disarm her. She had a long-serrated knife in her hands when the police arrived.
Bryn Spejcher, 32, was sentenced to only two years of probation instead of at least four years in prison. The judge took into account the fact that she had no prior criminal record.
According to the Ventura County Star, Spejcher and her family wept with relief when Ventura County Superior Court Judge David Worley delivered the punishment on Tuesday. However, the victim’s father, Sean O’Melia, claimed the penalty set a dangerous precedent and told the press, “He just gave everyone in the state of California who smokes marijuana a license to kill someone.”
According to the Ventura County Star, O’Melia’s friends and family marched in front of the county government building the day before Tuesday’s hearing. They carried posters that read, “Judge Worley, Do the Right Thing,” and “108 Stab Wounds Is a Serious Crime.”
