On Monday, subscription streaming service and production company Netflix released a trailer for their new film Maestro, which stars celebrity actor Bradley Cooper as ‘West Side Story’ composer Leonard Bernstein. In the biopic, Cooper seems nearly different in the first trailer for his highly awaited biography Maestro.
The 47-year-old actor plays legendary conductor and composer, while Mulligan plays his wife Felicia Montealegre, whose first look images were released by Netflix on Monday.
The first photographs from the set of the new film Maestro have stunned Netflix viewers. On social media, followers shared their startled reactions to the images.
The photographs depict Bernstein at various ages, with Cooper wearing excellent make-up to look like an elderly Bernstein. In the set shots, a 1950s-era Cooper appears in black and white alongside Carey Mulligan as Bernstein’s wife, actress Felicia Montealegre. He also looks miraculously aged up to play the conductor in his 60s with the help of cosmetics and a wig.
In one image, the winner of two Grammy Awards sits at a desk, almost unrecognizable as cigarette burns between his fingers; in another, he strides into an auditorium, waving his finger, perhaps conducting the action on stage or offering a note.
While one said it was “like a big award-winning performance,” another commented that he reminded of the award-winning Churchill, and yet another fan said that he served an Oscar.
Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Todd Phillips are producing the biopic of the West Side Story composer, with Cooper also serving as director and co-writer. Maestro, which is set to launch on Netflix in 2023, will also star Carey Mulligan, Jeremy Strong, Matt Bomer, and Maya Hawke.
Tanglewood, the legendary music facility in western Massachusetts that serves as the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, began production last week.
The British Academy Film Award winner’s directorial debut, “A Star Is Born,” in 2018, earned him $436 million worldwide and eight Oscar nominations, including best picture.
