Xavier super senior forward Jerome Hunter has been sidelined from all basketball activities indefinitely with an undisclosed medical issue, the school announced Tuesday.
The 6-foot-7 Hunter averaged 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 37 games (15 starts) for the Musketeers last season.
“Jerome Hunter is dealing with a medical issue that has sidelined him from all on-court basketball activities. Our medical team is working with Jerome to navigate a path for his return to full health. His timeline for a return to basketball will be established at a later time,” the school said in a statement.
Xavier coach Sean Miller followed up with a tweet, saying “we are fully committed to helping Jerome.”
We are fully committed to supporting Jerome. Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our players. Our team and staff stand united in offering him the care and encouragement that he needs as he works his way back to playing the game that he loves. https://t.co/Jd3kEsgFJw

Hunter announced he was returning for the 2023-24 season, his fifth and final, using the extra year given by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He averages 5.5 points in 127 career games (36 starts) at Indiana (2019-21) and Xavier.
