WTA Shuai Zhang advances in Nottingham

Fourth-seeded Shuai Zhang of China advanced Wednesday, but eighth-seeded Magda Linette of Poland was upset in the Round of 16 at the Rothesay Open in Nottingham, Great Britain.

Zhang defeated Jodie Burrage of Great Britain 6-2, 7-6 (4) while Linette was upended by Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 7-6 (3). Zhang and Martincova will meet in the quarterfinals.

In matches pitting unseeded players, Alison Riske of the United States defeated Daria Snigur of Ukraine 7-5, 6-3, Caroline Garcia of France downed American Lauren Davis 6-3, 7-6 (3), and Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland defeated Heather Watson of Great Britain 7-5, 6-2.
