Sixteen-year-old Laura Samson upset fellow Czech Katerina Siniakova at the Livesport Prague Open, defeating the No. 2 seed 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 on Tuesday.

With her hometown fans watching, Samson is playing in her first WTA tournament this week and her 11th pro event. She had not played an opponent ranked in the Top 200 before facing Siniakova, ranked No. 38.

In the quarterfinals, the No. 634 Samson will take on Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva, a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Kathinka von Deichmann of Liechtenstein. Top-seeded Czech Linda Noskova and sixth seed Magdalena Frech of Poland both advanced when their opponents retired. Others to advance Tuesday included third-seeded Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine, fourth-seeded Magda Linette of Poland, fifth-seeded Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria and Germany’s Ella Seidel.

UniCredit Iasi Open

Top seed Mirra Andreeva needed just 72 minutes to cruise to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus in Iasi, Romania.

The Russian didn’t face a break point while capitalizing on four of her eight chances to break Sasnovich’s serve.

No. 3 seed Jaqueline Cristian outlasted Romanian countrywoman Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-2 in three hours and two minutes. Fifth seed Elina Avanesyan of Russia beat Croatia’s Petra Martic 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

Other winners were No. 8 seed Anna Bondar of Hungary, Lea Boskovic of Croatia, Serbian Olga Danilovic and Frenchwomen Chloe Paquet and Selena Janicijevic.
