WTA News: WTA roundup: Semifinals set at Strasbourg, Rabat

Ninth-seeded Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil rallied past No. 2 seed Emma Navarro 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2 on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Internationaux de Strasbourg in France.

Haddad Maia saved nine of 14 break points and took advantage of nine double faults by Navarro in a match that lasted just over three hours. Navarro was leading 6-5 and serving for the match in the second set before letting it slip away.

Haddad Maia’s opponent in the semifinals will be No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, a 7-5, 6-3 winner against Poland’s Magda Linette. No. 8 Liudmula Samsonova of Russia will meet Danielle Collins in the other semifinal. Samsonova outlasted No. 3 Paula Badosa of Spain 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 and Collins advanced in a walkover against Anna Kalinskaya of Russia.

No. 2 seed Camila Osorio of Colombia became the only seeded player to reach the semifinals in Rabat, Morocco, with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Maria Mateas.

Osorio struck five aces and saved seven of eight break points to set up a meeting with Jacqueline Cristian of Romania, a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.

Australians Maya Joint and Ajla Tomljanovic will clash in the other semifinal. Both steamrolled their seeded opponents in the quarterfinals, with Joint knocking out No. 4 Ann Li 6-2, 6-1 in 64 minutes and Tomljanovic eliminating No. 10 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain 6-1, 6-3 in 65 minutes.
