Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic won in an upset and advanced to the semifinals to face No. 1 Jessica Pegula, who survived a three-set scare Thursday at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany.
Noskova took down Russian third seed Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 6-3. She never lost her serve, saving all three break points she faced to polish Andreeva off in 78 minutes. Pegula passed a tough test from No. 5 Emma Navarro 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in an all-American battle.
The other semifinal will pit No. 2 seed Jasmine Paolini of Italy and No. 4 seed Iga Swiatek of Poland in a rematch of their 2024 French Open final. Paolini got past Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia 7-5, 7-5, and Swiatek defeated No. 8 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Lexus Eastbourne Open
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova outlasted fellow Russian Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 to advance to an all-unseeded final four in Eastbourne, England.
Pavlyuchenkova out-aced Rakhimova 9-0 in the match and saved 11 of 13 break points. She’ll face Australia’s Maya Joint next after Joint beat Russian Anna Blinkova 6-4, 7-5.
Alexandra Eala of the Philippines was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska. Eala’s semifinal opponent will be Varvara Gracheva of France, who advanced via walkover when Czech second seed Barbora Krejcikova, the reigning Wimbledon champion, withdrew due to a thigh injury.
