Sixth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko captured her seventh career title with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Daria Kasatkina on Saturday in the final of the Adelaide International in Australia.
Ostapenko, of Latvia, recorded 32 winners and three aces to dispatch Kasatkina in 75 minutes. Saturday’s victory will catapult Ostapenko into the Top 10 for the first time since September 2018.
Kasatkina struggled from the onset in her bid for her seventh career title. The Russian registered four double faults and just 12 winners in defeat.
Ostapenko will face Aussie wild card Kimberly Birrell in the first round of the Australian Open, while Kasatkina will square off versus Peyton Stearns to begin the tournament.
Hobart International
Second-seeded Emma Navarro secured her first WTA Tour title with a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 victory over top-seeded Elise Mertens of Belgium.
Navarro recorded 39 winners and converted eight of 19 break points to end the match in 2 hours, 48 minutes.
Mertens, who had six double faults, was denied in her bid to win this Australian tournament for the third time. She won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.
Navarro will face Xiyu Wang of China in the first round of the Australian Open as the No. 27 seed, while No. 25 seed Mertens will square off versus Mayar Sherif of Egypt.
