World No. 1 Iga Swiatek withdrew from the Bad Homburg semifinals with a fever and possible food poisoning ahead of a scheduled match with Lucia Bronzetti of Italy in the Wimbledon tuneup.

“I’m so sorry but I have to pull out of my match today. I had a restless night because of some fever and possible food poisoning,” Swiatek said in a Twitter post. “I’m not able to perform today and I need to take care of myself. I hope I’ll be fine soon. Your support in Bad Homburg was amazing, thank you.”

Swiatek, 22, has a few days to recover before the start of Wimbledon at the All England Club. She’s slated to begin in the Round of 128 on Monday against China’s Lin Zhu, who is ranked 33rd.

Swiatek was in the semifnals of a grasscourt tournament for the first time before her illness in Germany.

Her most successful Wimbledon appearance since she was a junior Wimbledon champion was reaching the fourth round.

Entering the Grand Slam, Swiatek has won six consecutive sets on grass.

“I wouldn’t even call myself close to being an expert on grass but I’m making progress,” she said Thursday. “Hopefully I’m going to be able to play like that for the next three weeks.”
