On Wednesday, December 16, the Wall Street Journal reported that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is viewed more favorably than former President Donald Trump. A poll conducted by the outlet showed that the governor garnered more interest as a potential nominee of the Republican Party for the presidential election in 2024. The outlet reported a hypothetical contest between the two popular GOP candidates.
According to the WSJ exclusive, Mr. DeSantis polled 52 percent to Mr. Trump’s 38 percent among probable GOP primary voters for a nomination that will take place in about a year’s time. The outlet also reported that the Florida governor was “both well-known and well liked” by Republicans who might vote in either a primary or a nominating contest of the party.
The outlet also reported that 86 percent of these Republicans had a favorable view of DeSantis while 74 percent said that they viewed Mr. Trump favorably. One in 10 possible GOP primary voters mentioned that they could not give an opinion about the Governor of Florida because they didn’t know enough about him.
The poll also showed that 43 percent of the registered voters viewed Mr. DeSantis favorably when compared with Mr. Trump who was viewed favorably by 36 percent of these voters.
To date, former President Donald Trump is the only Republican who has declared his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections. Reports say that the Florida Governor has been quietly gathering funds and raising his profile in the GOP, although he has not made any formal announcement and even if he does, it would not be made until next year.
