World health day theme depression – CWEB.com
Today is World Health Day. World Health Organization is leading a one-year global campaign on depression, celebrated today. The goal of the campaign is that more people with depression, everywhere in the world, both seek and get help. Depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. More than 300 million people are now living with depression, an increase of more than 18% between 2005 and 2015. The focus for this year’s campaign from the who has been on reducing the stigma and increasing public awareness of depression and other mental issue. We need to stop belittling depression as something that can be overcome if one just tried to chill, be happy, and do meditation and relax. We need to acknowledge that depression is a real situation, and stop brushing it under the carpet. Here is to hoping for better sensitivity towards a disorder that is not as visible as a flu, TB, or broken bone, but is as real.
