Adapting abundant plants that farmers have been cultivating for thousands of years for use in tissue engineering could solve a host of problems limiting the field.” We’re using these leaves as a scaffold to grow the heart muscle on top of, and what’s nice with the leaves is it has that vascular supply in there, which is something we just can’t engineer.
