Aaliyah Edwards piled up 18 points and 15 rebounds as No. 11 UConn blew by Seton Hall 67-34 in Hartford, Conn., on Wednesday night, giving Huskies coach Geno Auriemma the 1,200th victory of his career.
Auriemma is just the third coach in Division I basketball history to reach the 1,200-win plateau. Stanford women’s basketball coach Tara VanDerveer reached 1,206 wins, while Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski finished with 1,202.
UConn (20-4, 12-0 Big East) was also aided by 17 points from Ashlynn Shade and 13 points, five assists and three steals from Paige Bueckers. The Huskies, who have won three in a row and 16 of the past 17, never trailed and led by as many as 36 points.
Iyanna Lops put up a team-high nine points as Seton Hall (13-10, 5-7) fell for the third time in four games.
BYU 78, No. 18 Baylor 66
Lauren Gustin had 23 points and 16 rebounds to help the Cougars pull off an upset of the Bears in Provo, Utah.
Gustin went 9-for-14 from the floor to lead BYU (13-11, 3-8 Big 12) to its first win over a ranked opponent this season. Amari Whiting, Kailey Woolston and Emma Calvert each added 14 points for the Cougars.
In its fifth loss in its past eight games, Baylor (17-5, 6-5) was steered by 17 points and 12 rebounds from Darianna Littlepage-Buggs. Yaya Felder added 15 points. Baylor scored the first bucket of the game, then never led again after BYU finished the opening quarter on a 22-9 run.
No. 24 Oklahoma 72, TCU 55
Skylar Vann scored 17 points as the Sooners won their seventh straight game, beating the Horned Frogs in Norman, Okla.
Vann also had three rebounds, three assists and three steals for Oklahoma (16-6, 10-1 Big 12), which is now in first place in the conference. Payton Verhulst added 14 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Kiersten Johnson chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.
Sydney Harris paced TCU (15-7, 2-9) with 17 points, while Aaliyah Roberson added 13 points and nine rebounds. The Sooners never trailed after the first quarter and went on to lead by as many as 18 points.
