Women’s Top 25 roundup: No. 21 Creighton bullies Xavier for 9th straight win

Mallory Brake and Lauren Jensen each netted 17 points as No. 21 Creighton pushed its winning streak to nine games with a 77-46 victory over Xavier on Tuesday night in Cincinnati.

Brake added eight rebounds and four steals for the Bluejays (19-3, 10-2 Big East), who have not lost since falling to then-No. 12 UConn on Jan. 3. Creighton also got 14 points and five assists from Morgan Maly.

Mackayla Scarlett poured in a game-high 26 points, but the Musketeers (1-19, 0-11) dropped their 11th straight game. Xavier was outshot 43.8 percent to 30.4 percent from the field.

The Bluejays closed the first half with a 6-0 spurt to take a 36-25 lead into the break. Then, after Scarlett opened the third quarter with a layup, Creighton rattled off 15 unanswered to points to put the game away. Maly and Brake headlined the charge, combining for 12 points.

No. 22 West Virginia 82, Texas Tech 59

JJ Quinerly continued her frantic scoring pace with 21 points as the Mountaineers knocked off the Lady Raiders in Morgantown, W.Va.

Quinerly made 9 of 14 shots from the field and has tallied at least 18 points in each of her past seven games. Kyah Watson supplied 19 points and eight rebounds, and Lauren Fields notched 11 points as West Virginia (20-2, 9-2 Big 12) won its seventh straight.

Jasmine Shavers paced Texas Tech (16-8, 5-6) with 16 points, while Jordyn Merritt had 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Raiders have lost eight of their past 13 games following an 11-0 start to the season.
