Women’s Top 25 roundup: Lauren Betts scores 33, No. 1 UCLA hits 20-0

Lauren Betts scored 33 points and No. 1 UCLA stayed undefeated by handling No. 8 Maryland 82-67 on Sunday afternoon in College Park, Md.

Betts shot 14-for-15 from the field and made five of six free-throw attempts to go with a team-high seven rebounds. Kiki Rice added 19 points for the Bruins (20-0, 8-0 Big Ten), who shot 54.5 percent from the field to help overcome 17 turnovers.

Maryland (16-4, 6-3), which has lost three games in a row, had 18 turnovers. Saylor Poffenbarger providing a team-high 18 points, Mir McLean posted 12 points off the bench and Sarah Te-Biasu and Kaylene Smikle both had 11 points for the Terrapins, who were in their fourth consecutive game against a ranked opponent.

UCLA led 39-34 at halftime before stretching the margin to 17 points at the end of the third quarter.

No. 5 LSU 64, Texas A&M 51

Flau’Jae Johnson tallied 22 points and Aneesah Morrow finished with 19 points as the Tigers pulled away from the Aggies in Baton Rouge, La.

LSU (21-1, 6-1 SEC), which responded from Friday’s 66-56 loss in a rescheduled game at second-ranked South Carolina, held on despite ending up 3-for-20 on 3-point attempts. The team’s starters were a combined 0-for-9 from beyond the arc.

Taliyah Parker came off the bench to score 13 points for Texas A&M (10-9, 3-4). Aicha Coulibaly had 12 points and Sole Williams provided 10 points. LSU led 44-38 going to the fourth quarter and 48-46 after Williams’ 3-pointer with less than seven minutes to play, but the Tigers responded with a 12-3 run.

No. 7 Texas 61, Ole Miss 58

Taylor Jones pumped in 24 points and Madison Booker hit a tiebreaking shot with 37 seconds left as Texas used a late really to escape with a win in Oxford, Miss.

Booker had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Longhorns (20-2, 6-1 SEC), who shot 1-for-11 on 3-pointers. Madison Scott’s 17 points and Sira Thienou’s 14 points were tops for Ole Miss (13-6, 4-3).

Texas trailed 47-45 going to the fourth quarter and faced a 56-48 deficit with five minutes remaining. Jones scored five straight points and later drained a shot to tie the score at 58-58. After Booker’s go-ahead basket and a defensive stop, Rori Harmon made a free throw with 2 seconds left.

No. 9 TCU 80, No. 25 Baylor 75

Sedona Prince racked up 24 points and 14 rebounds, Madison Conner contributed 21 points and the host Horned Frogs held on in Fort Worth, Texas.

Agnes Emma-Nnopu added 12 points and 10 rebounds for TCU (20-2, 8-1 Big 12). TCU went 9-for-15 on 3s, with Conner hitting four.

Sarah Andrews posted 21 points and Aliyah Matharu had 14 points for Baylor (16-5, 6-2), which didn’t take full advantage of TCU’s 16 turnovers. The Bears had only four giveaways.

The Horned Frogs led 66-51 with slightly more than eight minutes to play. Baylor’s Bella Fontleroy scored at the 44-second mark to make it a 75-71 deficit. TCU went 5-for-8 on free throws the rest of the way.

No. 11 Kentucky 89, Arkansas 69

Georgia Amoore’s 19 points led five Wildcats in double figures in a win over the Razorbacks in Lexington, Ky.

Clara Strack supplied 17 points, Amelia Hassett and Dazia Lawrence both poured in 14 points and Teonni Key had 13 points for the Wildcats (17-2, 6-1 SEC), who scored the game’s first 11 points and raced to a 29-10 lead after one quarter. Key’s 11 rebounds and Strack’s 10 aided Kentucky’s 44-30 rebounding edge, and Hassett and Lawrence sank four 3-pointers apiece.

Izzy Higginbottom scored 32 points, going 10-for-25 from the floor, for Arkansas (8-14, 1-6). Jenna Lawrence added 13 points off the bench.

No. 12 Ohio State 72, Nebraska 66

The Buckeyes’ Taylor Thierry made eight of 10 shots from the field on the way to 23 points in the road victory in Lincoln, Neb.

Cotie McMahon added 15 points and reserve Madison Greene had 11 points for Ohio State (19-1, 8-1 Big Ten), which shot 50 percent (27 of 54) from the field. Ohio State scored 25 third-quarter points to grab the lead. Nebraska was within 68-66 on Alexis Markowski’s basket with 1:44 to go before Greene made four free throws in the final 23 seconds.

Markowski had 18 points and Callin Hake posted 12 points for Nebraska (15-5, 6-3). Other than Hake’s 3-for-7 mark on 3s, Nebraska’s starters were a combined 2-for-16 from beyond the arc.

Florida State 86, No. 13 North Carolina 84

Ta’Niya Latson drove to the basket to make the game-winning shot at the buzzer, finishing with 25 points as the Seminoles won in their fifth straight visit to Chapel Hill, N.C.

Sydney Bowles had 18 points and Makayla Timpson added 15 points for the Seminoles (16-4, 6-2 ACC), who committed only seven turnovers. Bowles hit a 3-pointer with eight seconds left as the Seminoles went ahead 84-82 before Reniya Kelly’s tying basket at the four-second mark.

Maria Gakdeng’s 21 points paced North Carolina (18-4, 6-3), which has suffered each of its conference losses in home games. Kelly’s 16 points and Alyssa Ustby’s 14 points and 10 rebounds were boosts for the Tar Heels, who also received 13 points from Lanie Grant off the bench.

No. 14 Duke 55, No. 18 Georgia Tech 50

Taina Mair, Delaney Thomas and Oluchi Okananwa all scored 12 points as the visiting Blue Devils prevailed in a defensive tussle in Atlanta.

Duke (17-4, 8-1 ACC) shot 37.7 percent from the field and were perfect on six free-throw attempts. Duke outscored Georgia Tech (17-4, 5-4) by 10-5 in the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets had one point over the final five minutes, while the Blue Devils were scoreless for the last four.

Zoesha Smith’s 16 points and Kara Dunn’s 10 led the Yellow Jackets, who were 1-for-20 on 3-pointers and 33.3 percent (21-for-63) overall from the field.

No. 15 Oklahoma 86, Georgia 55

Raegan Beers supplied 13 points and 11 rebounds and Payton Verhulst also scored 13 points in the home romp in Norman, Okla.

Sahara Williams had 12 points for the Sooners (16-4, 4-3 SEC), who led 54-30 at halftime. Oklahoma won for the third time in its last four games, recovering from a 41-point loss a week earlier at No. 2 South Carolina.

Mia Woolfolk scored 19 points off the bench for the Bulldogs (9-12, 1-6), who were 2-for-17 on 3s and committed 19 turnovers. Asia Avinger was the top scorer among Georgia starters with nine points.

Vanderbilt 66, No. 19 Alabama 64

Mikayla Blakes put the Commodores ahead for good with a basket with 1:44 left and the visitors withstood Sarah Ashlee Barker’s career-high 36 points for the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Commodores (17-4, 4-3 SEC) also got two free throws from Blakes with 59 seconds left as she finished with 33 points. Blakes made three 3-pointers and shot 10-for-12 on free throws. Khamil Pierre added 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Barker also had three 3s, going 15-for-21 from the field and 3-for-4 on foul shots for Alabama (17-4, 4-3), which managed just seven points in the third quarter to slip behind. The Crimson Tide have lost two of their past three games — both at home.

No. 20 North Carolina State 85, Virginia Tech 57

Aziaha James scored 18 of her 25 points in the first half of the Wolfpack’s blowout victory over the Hokies in Raleigh, N.C.

Saniya Rivers poured in 17 points and Zoe Brooks and Madison Hayes both had 12 points for NC State (16-4, 8-1 ACC), which shot 56.3 percent from the field. James shot 10-for-18 from the floor and made three 3-pointers on her way to her second-highest point total of the season.

Carleigh Wenzel scored 18 points and Carys Baker had 15 points for Virginia Tech, which fell into a 29-12 first-quarter hole. NC State improved to 13-2 all-time at home vs. the Hokies, but this outcome snapped Virginia Tech’s four-game winning streak in the series.

No. 23 Minnesota 71, Wisconsin 50

Grace Grocholski scored 17 points and had plenty of help as the host Golden Gophers rolled in Minneapolis.

Sophie Hart’s 16 points, Mallory Heyer’s 15 points and Tori McKinney’s 14 points also boosted Minnesota (18-3, 6-3 Big Ten), which outscored the Badgers by 43-22 in the second half. The Golden Gophers overcame 6-for-24 shooting on 3-pointers. Heyer had 11 rebounds as Minnesota bounced back from a loss to No. 24 Michigan on Wednesday, remaining without consecutive setbacks this season.

Serah Williams had 16 points for Wisconsin (10-10, 1-8), which was charged with 23 turnovers. Tess Meyers had nine points on three 3s, accounting for a majority of the team’s five 3-pointers in 15 attempts.
