Two women’s basketball programs are looking for new head coaches.

On Thursday, Houston announced the resignation of longtime coach Ronald Hughey, and McNeese said the contract of Lynn Kennedy will not be renewed.

Houston relayed a short statement from Hughey that was addressed to university leadership and “all my former players and coworkers, thank you. I appreciate and love you.”

The Cougars finished the season 5-25 (1-17 Big 12) and on a 13-game losing streak. They lost to Colorado 66-58 on Wednesday in the first round of the conference tournament.

Houston was 140-195 — 65-119 in conference play — in 11 seasons under Hughey.

At McNeese, Kennedy departs after four seasons. The Cowgirls were 10-21 (5-15 Southland) in 2024-25 and 41-80 in his tenure.

“I really appreciate Coach Kennedy’s efforts in leading our women’s basketball program over the last four years, athletic director Heath Schroyer said. “He’s a good man and I wish him nothing but the best moving forward. I believe this position is now one of the best jobs in our conference. My expectations moving forward are that we compete for Southland Conference championships.”
