Newly released documents reveal new details and information about the murders of two elderly residents at a senior living facility in Mount Dora, Florida, on New Year’s Eve, including how the couple may have died and how authorities tracked down the alleged suspect in Georgia.
According to the 12-page probable cause affidavit, filed Monday and reviewed by The Post, Darryl Getman, 83, and Sharon Getman, 80, were knifed to death inside their Mount Dora apartment on New Year’s Eve. Vickie Williams, a Georgia woman, has been charged with murder in the death of an elderly married couple at a Florida senior living community on New Year’s Eve.
According to the court document, when police arrived at the Getmans’ apartment at the Waterman Village senior living community around 4 p.m. on Dec. 31, they found the wife lying in a pool of blood in the entryway, wearing only a T-shirt and underwear. Sharon had head trauma and lay in a pool of blood, the cops said. Her husband was found nearby with severe head and facial trauma and a large butcher-style stuck to the hilt in his abdomen.
There were white towels beside her, implying that someone attempted to help her or clean up the mess. The apartment and garage were littered with bare footprints. A bloodstained towel was found in the guest bathroom, indicating that there had been a clean-up attempt. Strands of curly black hair and a bloody shoe were also discovered by detectives. They feel all this belonged to the suspect.
During a press conference last week, Mount Dora Interim Police Chief Mike Gibson stated that on the afternoon of December 30, Williams was “dressed in a particular way” and was escorted out of the Waterman Village complex by security. However, the woman remained in the area and knocked on an apartment door shortly before 11 p.m., asking a resident if she could use her shower. According to police, the female tenant became afraid and pressed an alarm button, prompting Williams to flee with a set of keys she found near the door.
The Getmans’ car, a green Kia Soul, was seen leaving the retirement community shortly after 2 a.m. the next morning. Darryl and Shannon Getman were discovered dead inside their home around 4 p.m. that same day.
Police eventually tracked down Williams in Savannah, Georgia, on January 2, using data from license plate readers and pings from Sharon’s phone. The woman was found sitting in the couple’s car and was taken into custody without incident.
Cops took DNA and hair samples from Williams, as well as fingerprints and ink prints of her feet, to compare to crime scene evidence. They revealed that she was homeless and living in her car. Williams is scheduled to appear in court on January 30 for her arraignment.
