Cade Tyson has brought star power to Minnesota this season.

Tyson will look to keep up his sharp play when Minnesota (6-5) tips off against Campbell (5-6) on Sunday in Minneapolis. The Golden Gophers will go for back-to-back victories after knocking off Texas Southern last weekend.

Tyson poured in 38 points in 37 minutes in Minnesota’s most recent win. He made 11 of 19 shots overall and drained 8 of 12 attempts from beyond the arc.

Minnesota coach Niko Medved praised Tyson for his all-around contributions this season. Tyson enters the game against Campbell averaging 22.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

“He’s just awesome,” Medved said. “His mindset has been terrific every day. It’s not just the scoring. (It’s) him battling on the glass, bloodied lip. He just always plays the right way.”

Against Campbell, the Golden Gophers will look to maintain a pass-first approach. Minnesota finished with 27 assists on 28 baskets in its most recent game.

That is exactly the formula Medved says will lead to success.

“That’s what we’ve tried to instill from Day 1 here,” Medved said. “(Give up a) good shot for a great shot. Guys are sharing the ball, helping each other get great shots. It’s great to see that come into play.”

The Golden Gophers will take on a Campbell squad that is coming off a 98-70 loss on the road against No. 7 Gonzaga. Campbell won its previous two games against Ball State and Virginia-Lynchburg before traveling northwest to take on Gonzaga.

D.J. Smith leads the Fighting Camels with 19.4 points per game. Dovydas Butka is next on the scoring list with 16.6 points to go along with 8.6 rebounds per game.

Campbell coach John Andrzejek said a tough road trip will make his team better in the long run.

“I think we’ve really been coming together as a team,” he said. “I like the direction we’re going. I think our attitude’s been getting better and better.”
