Jessy Kurczewski: A Wisconsin woman was sentenced to life in prison on Friday, April 5, after she was convicted of poisoning her friend. The 40-year-old woman used eyedrops to poison her friend and to defraud her of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Her friend, a beautician, was found dead on October 3, 2018. There were crushed pills on her chest as she was found by her so-called friend, who called 911 and reported that the beautician was not breathing and may have committed suicide.
Jessy Kurczewski has received life in prison with the possibility of extended supervision after 30 years for killing Lynn Hernan in October 2018. She also received an additional ten years for two theft convictions—five years for each. This means she would be eligible for parole after 40 years in prison.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Dorow said that her goal in giving the sentence was to ensure that Kurczewski would be about 80 years old when she was eligible for parole. She will also have to pay more than $386,000 in restitution to an escrow account set up for earnings obtained from interviews or other deals, including films, documentaries, or books about the case.
Judge Dorow said that she thought that the Franklin resident had “very real potential” to sell her account of the murder for money. She also called it “completely diabolical.” Several of Lynn Vernan’s friends also expressed similar sentiments and their anger at her for killing their friend.
Jessy Kurczewski maintained her innocence and said her friend Lynn Herman had willingly drunk the water bottles with eye drops (Visine). She maintained that it was a suicide and said that she would appeal. She has gone through eight attorneys so far.
Lynn Herman died in 2018, and her death was ruled as suicide. Months later, toxicology reports showed that the 62-year-old had ingested several chemicals, including tetrahydrozoline found in eye drops (it is an over-the-counter medication).
A second beneficiary of Hernan’s will questioned the estate’s finances, and then the case was ruled as a homicide. Investigators thought Kurczewski wiped Hernan’s bank accounts while the beautician was alive. She also benefited from Hernan’s death by taking money from the estate. She also allegedly had a gambling problem.
