On Friday, the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors filed a motion in bankruptcy court against Rudy Giuliani. They want the former Mayor of New York to sell his condominium in Florida to pay some of his debts. He filed for bankruptcy in December. He was ordered to pay more than a hundred million to election workers and owes other debtors.
The filing notes that the condominium in Palm Beach is a non-exempt asset, and he does not live there. His New York City apartment is his primary residence, and the creditors say that Giuliani has not listed Florida as a property on the market. The lawyer pays tens of thousands of dollars as monthly maintenance fees for the condo.
The filing also said Rudy Giuliani had said in a statement that he spent about 20 to 30 percent of his time in the Sunshine State.
The filings said that payments for several lifestyle expenses were being made while Giuliani could not pay his debts. They listed some of his credit card payments, including Uber rentals, several transactions on Amazon, charges for Netflix, and more.
It also said that it was important that Giuliani took homeowners insurance to secure his properties.
Heath Berger and other partners are representing Rudy Giuliani. Berger told CNBC that the case is in its infancy and that the expenses were not extraordinary and categorized them as “normal living expenses.”
Berger also said that his client, Rudy Giuliani, was looking at selling his Manhattan property. This property was more valuable and could be used to clear more of the debts he had accrued. He said that Rudi Giuliani would be moving to Florida.
Rudy Giuliani also faces a divorce settlement and owes the IRS and lawyers’ fees. His debts include a $148 million defamation settlement to two Georgia election workers.
