According to sources familiar with the matter, Panera Bread (PNRA) is expected to discontinue serving its Charged Lemonade and Charged Sips. The removal is imminent and could occur within the next few days or weeks. The highly caffeinated drinks are facing lawsuits. Panera did not confirm the removal of these fruit-based charged drinks but released a statement saying that it has transformed its menu.

According to its website, its Unlimited Sip Club still offers charged sips, but this is set to change soon. The site also says that a regular size of the Charged drinks has at least 155 milligrams of caffeine, while a large size contains at least 233.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends up to 400 milligrams per day of caffeine for healthy adults. This is equivalent to four to five cups of coffee, depending on the brand and roast’s caffeine content.

In December 2022, a viral video posted on social media by a user brought attention to the amount of caffeine in Charged drinks. The user used to regularly drink these beverages without realizing the amount of caffeine present in them.

In 2023, some people have filed lawsuits saying that they lost loved ones who consumed large numbers of Charged drinks made by Panera. Some mentioned the health problems that arose from drinking these caffeinated drinks. However, the bread and beverage maker said that its products are safe.

Panera Bread said it had changed its menu after surveying over 30,000 web fans and adding different drinks. It has changed its selection of menu items in various categories, such as sandwiches, soups, salads, macaroni and cheese, and drinks, adding low-caffeine and low-sugar options.

Panera Bread was a publicly traded company for 25 years. In 2017, it was taken private by JAB Holding. Reports say that it is allegedly preparing for an IPO this year.
