Microsoft (MSFT) has added a much-needed update that allows iPhone users to send texts through their desktops. This means that they can now operate their phones using their personal computers (PCs). Microsoft has enormous Windows software sales and this update could give a further boost.
In its blog, Microsoft said Windows 11 PC with Phone Link for iOS has been rolled out for the tech giant’s global users “in 39 languages across 85 markets.”
International Data Corporation (IDC) recently reported that Apple Inc. had shipped about 10 percent of the global PCs last year. Apple has integrated its iPhone and Mac business that might account for robust sales. The latest update by Windows, the most popular global software, could dent Apple’s PC sales.
Earlier Phone Link only worked when using Android phones. By allowing Apple’s flagship iPhone integration, Microsoft has achieved a successful integration as the iPhone is extremely popular in America, as well as around the world.
Many consumers, who wished to integrate their iOS mobiles with their computers, might have hesitated to buy a Windows PC due to lack of integration in the past and might have opted for Macs. Now, consumers who prefer iPhones have a choice in PCs due to the latest Windows update by Microsoft.

On Monday’s announcement, Microsoft said that “Messaging feature is limited by iOS.”
A Windows PC that has Phone Link can get notifications from its user’s iPhone and show the messages on Windows. Group texts through iMessage are not supported. Photos or videos cannot be sent by users. However, Phone Link can display messages that it sends or receives. Users who send texts on their phone will not be able to see that part of their message history in Windows, as they are session based. They “will only come through when phone is connected to PC”, according to the Microsoft blog.
