Apple recently put a teaser on its browse tab in its Music App. The heading read: Coming soon and the headline stated “Get ready – music is about to change forever.” The “Tune-in “Video” that accompanied this announcement features an animated Apple Music logo. Macrumors was the first to report this on Sunday. It also reported that an exciting announcement on lossless streaming and a Hi-Fi tier may also be announced along with the launch of the third-generation Airpods. All these new changes could be announced through a press release on its website tomorrow.
This new rumor about upgrading its Music service follows a report that the tech giant was planning to offer its subscribers better quality music streaming services. The code present in the Android app suggests that the lossless tier will support 24-bit/48Hz which is more powerful when compared with the regular 16-bit/44.1kHz. The Hi-Fi resolution lossless tier will support 24-bit/192 kHz.
As the quality of streaming improves, it will also require additional storage space and data. The current high tier at Apple Music for a 3 minute song uses 6MB of data. With lossless streaming this could increase to 36MB of data and hi-res lossless could consume 145MB.

Apple Music wishes to reach the level of high quality sound that is currently offered by its rivals such as Tidal, Amazon Music HD and Deezer. As it looks to increase its subscriber base, it needs to offer streaming services that are competitive. Spotify, which is a popular competitive app on the Apple App Store, is also planning to launch its lossless HiFi tier this year.
9to5Mac reports that the lossless mentions on the code are next to references about ‘Dolby Atmos’ and ‘Dolby Audio.” This could point to ability for certain songs to have a 3D soundstage with the Spatial Audio features that are available on AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.
