Officer Christopher Fitzgerald of Temple University’s police department was most cherished by his father and wife, who both spoke to Action News about their sad loss. The officer was fatally shot over the weekend while on duty in Philadelphia’s streets.
The family of the murdered officer, including his widow Marissa and his father Dr. Joel Fitzgerald Sr., who serves as the RTD’s police director in Denver, sat down for an interview with Karen Hua of NBC10.

The Temple University officer’s tearful wife claimed that before his passing, he kissed her goodbye and told her he loved her. Despite promising to come home soon to his wife Marissa, Christopher Fitzgerald never did. Criticizing her husband’s alleged killer, Marissa called him an “evil coward” who should rot in prison.
Marissa Fitzgerald, Ofc. Fitzgerald’s wife spoke while crying that she tried to call him to see if he might respond, but he did not pick up. When Marissa Fitzgerald discovered that her husband had been shot and killed while on duty, she broke down in tears and described those moments. When Marissa received the message Saturday night informing her that Officer Fitzgerald had been shot in the head along Montgomery Avenue in North Philadelphia, she had just returned from running errands and had not even got out of the car.
While attempting to halt a robbery at North 17th Street and West Montgomery Avenue in North Philadelphia on Saturday night, Fitzgerald was fatally shot. Christopher made the same job decision as his parents, who are both law enforcement officials. Dr. Joel Fitzgerald Sr. and Marissa Fitzgerald also discussed Fitzgerald’s impact and the fact that he passed away carrying out his passions. His father, a member of the police, is now pleading for justice.

Police detained Miles Pfeffer at his family’s residence in Buckingham Township, a wealthy rural community north of Philly, less than 12 hours after the shooting. According to the US Marshals, he was put in Fitzgerald’s handcuffs as part of a custom to remember departed police officers. According to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, Pfeffer is accused of murder, murder of a law enforcement official, robbery, carjacking, and crimes involving weapons in connection with the killing of Officer Fitzgerald.
