Kanye West will not perform at the Grammys. Sources close to the rapper said that he had received a call on March 18, informing him about this decision. There is speculation that his recent online behavior, his 24-hour hour suspension on social media and his use of a racial slur on a popular host were the reasons why his performance was dropped.
Insiders said that the Awards show had to take this position to avoid a potential flare up between rapper Kanye and Trevor Noah who is the host of the Grammys. The recent spat between the two cannot become an issue at the ceremony, so they “unfortunately” had to drop the rapper from the performance line up. Other reasons could include his Instagram ban.
Noah was the one who recently faced a racial slur posted by the rapper on Instagram which led to a 24-hour ban on the social media platform. The Donda rapper has been posting violent videos, weird memes and has harassed his ex wife Kim Kardashian, her boyfriend Pete Richardson and others on the social media platform. However, with Noah he used a racial slur, which might have been the tipping point.
The Game, who has collaborated with the rapper in Eazy– a track which had offensive lyrics against Pete Davidson as well as violence in the video, using cartoon characters, has jumped to the defense of Kanye.
In a long post, he said that the Grammys pulling Kanye’s performance was something they knew would happen. He spoke of how they wanted to “STEAL the culture” but not allow them “to ever be their equals.”
He also mentioned that Kanye could have been removed as Trevor Noah was hosting the show, or because his Instagram account had been suspended and said that they faced “disrespect” although all of them had brought so much to the table “in entertainment, media and sports over the last 100 years especially.”
Kanye West’s ‘Donda’ album is one among those that have been nominated for Album of the Year. Rapper Ye has not as yet responded to his removal from the Grammys performance line up. However, it is just a matter of time and we will soon read or hear his response.
