McDonald’s has been hit with a class action lawsuit. The US food and beverage giant has been called out for its claim of McRib for its sandwich as a group of consumers say that it does not contain pork rib meat. The complaint alleges that there is no pork rib meat listed in the ingredients, despite the web fan favorite item’s name and presentation. McDonald’s has rejected the claims and issued a statement after the lawsuit became public.
The lawsuit was filed on December 23, 2025 in the Northern District of Illinois. There are a total of 16 claims including omission or concealment, fraudulent misrepresentation, and the violation of state consumer protection laws in California, New York, Illinois, and Washington DC.
The complaint says that the sandwich has ground up portions of lower grade products. It says that the name of the sandwich is misleading as it suggests that it contains pork rib meat as the sandwich has a rib shaped patty.
The lawsuit also alleges that the food and beverage giant “knowingly markets the sandwich in a way that deceives reasonable consumers, who reasonably at least (but mistakenly) believe that a product named the ‘McRib’ will include at least some meaningful quantity of actual pork rib meat, which commands a premium price on the market.”
McDonald’s issued a statement to multiple outlets in defense of its popular sandwich. It called the claims that the company used “pork hearts, tripe, and scalded stomach” inaccurate.
The Chicago headquartered food and beverage giant also noted its commitment to food quality and said that they have been transparent about their ingredients, allowing fans to make the right choice. The statement also said that their “fan-favorite McRib sandwich is made with 100% pork sourced from farmers and suppliers across the U.S.”
Popular sandwich McRib from McDonald’s is available in certain menus in select parts of the country. It is generally available for a limited time and is a web fan favorite.
