On Monday, in a brief statement Fox News announced that American rightwing TV host Tucker Carlson was leaving the network. On the same day, CNN host Don Lemon shared on social media that he was fired by the network. Earlier on Sunday, Jeff Shell CEO of NBCUniversal was dismissed. There are similarities and differences in the reasons why these people who gained celebrity status in their respective jobs were dismissed.

A tersely worded statement from Fox News announced the prime-time star Tucker Carlson was departing from the news channel and it was effective immediately. Tucker Carlson’s final primetime show The Tucker Carlson Show was on Friday. He had signed off on Friday saying that he would be back on Monday.

A spokesperson from Fox released the following statement: “FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.”

Although no reason has been mentioned for him leaving the show, Tucker Carlson has recently been implicated in different lawsuits, one among them is the lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems while the other consists of two lawsuits filed by Abby Grossberg, his former senior booking producer.

About a week ago, Fox network had settled a lawsuit that was filed by Dominion for $787 million. Tucker Carlson had been mentioned in the lawsuit. The other suits by Grossman spoke of alleged sexism, harassment and misogyny in the work place.

On Monday, CNN host Don Lemon said that he had been fired from the network, according to a post he shared on Twitter. The CNN This Morning host, who has been with the network for 17 years said that he was “stunned” by the news and that he was informed by his agent on Monday morning.

Later on, the same day CNN disputed Don Lemon’s version and said that he had been “offered an opportunity to meet with the management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

Don Lemon had recently passed comments on sexism and ageism live on air when the show was discussing Republican Nikki Haley who is planning to enter the presidential race in 2024. Many insiders and women who have worked with Don Lemon have anonymously complained about his behavior that combines offensive remarks, mistreatment of women as well as allegedly sending two threatening texts to a female colleague.

Earlier on Sunday, NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell was dismissed by the network after he admitted to an “inappropriate relationship” with a woman in the company, according to corporate parent Comcast. The parent company had hired outside counsel after a woman filed a complaint against him.

On Monday, Suzanne McKie of Farore Law released a statement that confirmed that the investigation into CEO Jeff Shell was undertaken as her client had complained about “sexual harassment and sexual discrimination.” The lawyer also mentioned disappointment as their client’s name had been released and their client’s privacy had been violated.

On Monday, Hadley Gamble came forward and said that she had complained against CEO Jeff Shell. She is a CNBC news anchor and international correspondent.

Although there are multiple reasons for their dismissal all these three celebrity newspersons: right-wing host Tucker Carlson, Talk show host Don Lemon and CEO Jeff Shell have the common factor of being dismissive towards women, whether it is through misogyny, sexual harassment or sexual discrimination.
