The Vancouver Whitecaps announced the signing Thursday of midfielder Andres Cubas from the French club Nimes Olympique.
The 25-year-old Paraguayan joins the MLS club on a four-year contract through June 2026 as a Designated Player. The deal includes an option for the final six months of 2026.
“I’m extremely happy to be a part of Vancouver Whitecaps FC,” Cubas said in a team news release. “I’m excited to arrive in Vancouver, get to know my teammates, and help the team wherever needed. I will do my very best to bring joy to the club and all the supporters.”
In his second season at Nimes, Cubas leads Ligue 2 this year in successful tackles per match (2.6) and ranks second in interceptions per game (2.7) through 21 appearances (18 starts).

“We identified Andres as one of our top targets during the offseason and actively started our pursuit in December. He is a ball-winning defensive midfielder, who will be key in organizing our midfield as he brings experience, leadership and maturity to our young group,” Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said. “We have started the visa process and hope to have him available as soon as possible. We are very excited to welcome Andres and his family to Vancouver.”
Cubas came up through the famed Boca Juniors youth system in Argentina. He made 51 appearances with CA Talleres in that country before joining Nimes.
