The Chicago White Sox placed right-handed reliever Joe Kelly on the 15-day injured list with a strained left hamstring on Thursday.
In a corresponding move, they recalled left-handed reliever Tanner Banks from Triple-A Charlotte.
The White Sox host the Boston Red Sox Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series.
Kelly, 33, left Chicago’s 3-1 win on Wednesday with hamstring tightness in the eighth inning after striking out two batters.
The White Sox signed Kelly to a two-year, $17 million contract in March. He missed the start of the season with a nerve injury in his right biceps.
In seven relief appearances, Kelly is 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA in 5 2/3 innings. He took the loss in his second game of the season when he surrendered five runs on a hit and four walks to the New York Yankees in 2/3 of an inning on May 12.
Banks, 30, made his major league debut with the White Sox on April 10. In 11 appearances, Banks has given up six earned runs in 18 innings for an ERA of 3.00 with 13 strikeouts.
