In honor of the 70-year partnership between the two countries, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted a lavish state dinner at the White House on Wednesday night to conclude South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s official state visit.
“This visit is intended to reaffirm all that links our two countries. It involves a promise to support one another’s worries and pay attention to one another’s aspirations. It enables us to tenaciously overcome every challenge. In his remarks at the start of the dinner, Biden said, “That empowers us to move further and quicker in space, cyber, technology, and those areas that matter most to our future.
In his closing remarks, Biden made the following toast: “To our relationship, to our people, to possibilities, and to the together that the United States and the Republic of Korea will create. For the next 170 years, may we work together.
However, Biden wasn’t the only politician to speak. After a series of musical performances, his South Korean counterpart joined him on stage and gave his own performance, which was a karaoke cover of Don McLean’s “American Pie.” The audience applauded him and gave him a standing ovation.
The White House was decorated with a photo-ready hand-painted silk screen with Korean and American symbolism, including a magpie, a tiger, and a hibiscus for South Korea, and a bald eagle, bison, and roses for the US. The US president and first lady, who was dressed in a mauve, long sheath evening gown by Reem Acra, welcomed guests to the venue.
