Police discovered the body of a Texas attorney who pulled a gun and threatened to shoot his ex-girlfriend at a bar last week. The body of Gavin Rush was discovered by the Austin Police Department shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, following a call requesting a welfare check. His death is not being investigated as suspicious, according to police. Officials have not revealed how he died.
He was discovered dead four days after being arrested on Nov. 26 for pulling a gun on his ex-girlfriend while she was working at a bar. According to the arrest affidavit, Rush was her ex-boyfriend of three years, and their relationship ended about a month and a half ago. The affidavit said that he had been attempting to rekindle their relationship over the previous week but discovered she was interested in a new relationship.
The victim and Rush texted for several days, and he made “threats to harm himself and the other person” with whom she was starting a relationship. According to the affidavit, she eventually stopped responding to his messages because she was at work.

On Saturday, she was working behind the counter at a bar in the 10400 block of Anderson Mill Road when Rush walked in, sat on a barstool, and placed a small leather satchel on the counter. He then drew a pistol from his satchel and pointed it at her, activating a laser sight with a red dot centered on her chest.
Two bar patrons seated next to Rush, who knew both him and the victim as well as his threats, told police that when they noticed the red dot on her chest, one of them lunged at him and both tackled him to the ground. According to one of those customers, as they were walking towards the ground, Rush “placed the pistol under his chin and attempted to shoot himself in the head,” according to the affidavit. The patrons were eventually able to remove Rush’s pistol and restrain him until officers arrived and took him into custody.
On the same day, he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly assault weapon involving family violence. According to the affidavit, the gun was fired three times, and three spent shell casings and one live unfired round were discovered on the floor of the bar.
Rush was released two days later on $40,000 bond, according to NBC affiliate WOAI in San Antonio. According to the statement, Rush was “encouraged to use the variety of support and behavioral health resources we provide” after being “separated” from the firm.
