Tesla unveiled two new vehicles, Cybercab robotaxi and the Robovan, on Thursday at its much-anticipated event, We, Robot. The grand tech event occurred at the Warner Bros. studios in Burbank, California. Prototypes of both these driverless vehicles were unveiled. A version of Tesla’s humanoid robot was also shown at the event, and it performed for the web fans present.
At the October 10 event, Elon Musk said, “With autonomy, you get your life back,” and more.
The Tesla (TSLA) CEO also mentioned that autonomous cars would have a tenfold safety factor over cars with human drivers and noted that future autonomous vehicles (AVs) would be “comfortable little lounges.”
Musk also mentioned that regular Tesla models would achieve full autonomy by 2025 and be on the roads in California and Texas next year and in other permitted places.
Some of the features of the new autonomous vehicles include a stainless steel body. The Cybercab would be charged via induction on charging pads. It has butterfly doors, no steering wheels, and no pedals. He also said that it would cost less than $30,000.
The Tesla CEO also unveiled a larger autonomous vehicle, the Robovan. This futuristic vehicle resembles a box and is expected to carry 20 people simultaneously. Both vehicles unveiled on Thursday resembled Tesla’s cyber truck.
Tesla also unveiled an upgraded version of its humanoid robot, Optimus. He said it would be a buddy for anyone who wanted such a robot. It would walk among web fans and perform both personal and domestic tasks.
Many web fans cheered Tesla CEO Elon Musk as he spoke about the future at the We, Robot event.
