It is common knowledge that lower temperatures decrease the electric vehicle’s range thus making it longer to recharge. Tesla, Inc. offers its customers all sorts of schedule departure options in its mobile app. It is only when the charging fails, customers get agitated.
A Virginia radio personality said he had to cancel Christmas plans because his Tesla S electric car would not charge during the country’s ongoing freezing weather. Domenick Nati’s holiday season hasn’t started off well after his Tesla refused to charge in freezing temperatures. The 44-year-old radio host from Lynchburg, Virginia, told Insider that it was 19 degrees (minus 7 degrees Celsius) when he plugged his Tesla S into a supercharger on Friday, with his battery at 40%.
According to Nati, two hours of charging changed nothing. The charging was extremely slow, and the numbers seemed to drop as the temperature dipped. Eventually, the charging stopped entirely. He later attempted to charge the vehicle at home but was also unsuccessful.

On Christmas Eve afternoon, he decided to drive to another Tesla supercharger. A Tesla Supercharger is a 480-volt direct current fast-charging technology developed by Tesla, Inc. for electric vehicles.
Nati reported that the screen displayed “Battery is heating – Keep charge cable inserted” at 1:11 p.m. However, an hour later, the battery range had not increased. He shared a video on TikTok about the problem that stranded him on Christmas Eve.
The car owner stated that he attempted to contact Tesla for customer service but received no response. He told Insider that he eventually canceled his holiday plans because his car only had a 19-mile range and there were no available Uber or Lyft drivers at the time. He was worried that he wouldn’t be able to see his son on Christmas morning as a result.
On Sunday too Nati did not receive any response from Tesla and his car was still not charging, he said. He also mentioned hearing from others with similar experiences.
