On Wednesday, Celebrity Taylor Swift was at the iconic Yankee stadium in New York City but it was for a different kind of show. The young singer was receiving a doctorate in fine arts from New York University. She also delivered a commencement address to students of the 2020, 2021 and 2022 batches of New York University. The graduation ceremony in 2022 was huge as earlier ones had been skipped due to Covid.
The multiple Grammy award winning singer received a honorary Doctor of Fine Arts, wearing a black mini dress under her voluminous purple robe. She wore trendy cheetah printed high heels. She addressed the students for 20 minutes. Taylor Swift offered the students what she termed as “life hacks” on various topics such as love, life and work.
She began the speech by saying that the last time she had been in such a huge stadium, she was wearing a glittery leotard and dancing in heels. She noted that the graduation robes were more comfortable. The singer said that she had never been to college as she began her musical career one year after high school.
The 32-year old singer-songwriter told students that “life can be heavy” if a person tried to carry it all at once and the trick to deal with it was to “catch and release.” She gave examples of how a person could hold or release experiences in life. She told the students of 2020, 2021 and 2022 to “be discerning.”
Another point she emphasized on was to “live alongside with the cringe.” She gave a personal anecdote of “cringe” and said that it was not possible to avoid it in a person’s lifetime.

She also told the students of New York University that hard things happen and yet there is recovery and that is how resilience was built. She also joked that she might have been invited because of her song 22.
Taylor Swift concluded her speech saying, “I hope you know how proud I am to share this day with you. We’re doing this together. So let’s just keep dancing like we’re…the class of 2022.
