The ‘Secrets of’ series, which debuted early this year, featured a number of true stories about sex and greed. Trending on Hulu now is an eight-episode documentary ‘Welcome to Chippendales’ that tells the real story of Steve Banerjee’s all-male burlesque. Through Welcome to Chippendales, the platform takes audiences back to the ’80s and into the renowned male strip club run by Somen Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani), an immigrant from India who came to the country in order to succeed and become wealthy.
The eight-episode true-crime docudrama follows the real events fairly closely, a classic tale of rivalry. It traces the journey of Steve Banerjee, who basks in his success as the owner of an iconic male strip club. Deep-seated insecurities and uncontrollable rage drive Somen, who changed his name to the Americanized “Steve,” to have choreographer Nick De Noia (Murray Bartlett) killed and target several other rival clubs around the world after he succeeds. When Steve is finally apprehended and imprisoned, he commits suicide while waiting for his punishment.
The Banerjee-owned stripping club was famous for the act where a male stripper and “ladies only” crowd pleaser receives a dollar tip in exchange for kissing a spectator. In a series, 27-year-old celebrity actress Nicola Peltz, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham’s wife, plays real-life Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten. She is the girlfriend of Paul Snider (Dan Stevens), a wanna-be big shot/club promoter who convinces Steve to hire him. Peltz Beckham was predictably glamorous at the premiere of the miniseries, which is streaming in the United States.

Banerjee built a successful male stripping realm with his business partner Nick De Noia until things fell apart. Banerjee hired a hitman to take care of De Noia after he gained more recognition and won the Chippendales partnership’s touring rights. Interestingly, Banerjee was not initially suspected of the crime until he reclaimed the touring rights from De Noia’s family.
However, his manslaughter did not end with De Noia. He went on a killing spree, hiring the same hitman to carry out the murders of former dancers Read Scot and Steve White, who were in the process of forming their own company. However, things did not go as planned for Banerjee, who was eventually found guilty of several crimes.
Following Banerjee’s arrest and suicide, the Chippendales brand was passed to his wife, Irene. According to reports, she sold the brand for a whopping $2.5 million and now reportedly owned by a group of New York investors and Kevin Denberg. Fans are excited.
