The head of the main opposition Democratic Party in South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, suffered injuries on Tuesday when a man in his 60s stabbed him in the neck when he was visiting the port city of Busan in the southeast.
Lee was transported by plane to the nation’s capital, Seoul National University Hospital. According to the Associated Press, which quoted Lee’s party, he was recuperating in the hospital’s intensive care unit following a two-hour surgery.
The head detective of the Busan Regional Police, Sohn Jae-han, announced during a press briefing on Tuesday that a male suspect in his 60s from the south Choongchung province was under arrest.
