On Friday, dozens of people attacked a convenience store in Oakland, California. The store owner claims there was a late response from police after staff alerted 911. The employees fled from the mini market as a huge mob took it over and robbed and ransacked the store. He said the flash mob spent 30 to 40 minutes before fleeing with items worth thousands of dollars.
Sam Mardaie owner of 76 gas station store at the corner of Hegenberger Road and Edgewater Drive, in Oakland, California told multiple outlets that two of his workers were in the mini market and called 911 when a mob of people robbed and ransacked the convenience store. He claimed that the thieves came in waves.
He also estimated that the number of thieves was between 80 and 100. They took away merchandise, his cash register, and his ATM machine, which had approximately $22,000 in cash.
Mardie explained that there had been a large sideshow near his 24-hour store-gas station. On Friday, at about 4.30 a.m., dozens of thieves broke in when the convenience store only offered window service. Spectators broke the glass and began robbing and ransacking the store. His two employees ran out for safety.

Although Mardaie blamed Oakland police for the late response, the police officers said that the call was received after the thieves left and was, therefore, not a priority as they were on other active scenes.
The mini-mart owner wanted city leaders to do better, and his district councilwoman, Treva Reid, released a statement: “…I continue to advocate and work to secure increased public safety resources and response, urging the mayor to prioritize our district’s demand.”
The Hegenberger corridor in Oakland, California, has faced several burglaries. A popular In-N-Out was shuttered in March.
The reason mentioned was the safety and security of its staff and web fans, despite being financially viable and a landmark diner in that location. Two 7-Eleven stores were also closed in Oakland last month.
