On October 11, Meta held its Connect 2022 event. It announced a host of VR features including its much awaited, expensive Quest Pro headset that had been teased by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, weeks ago, on Facebook. Another major development that will be welcomed by many is that avatars now have legs and need not float around VR spaces.
Some of the key updates from Connect 2022 include the following:
Meta is releasing its new, upgraded Quest VR headset called Quest Pro, which was earlier teased as Project Cumbria.
Meta has formed a new partnership with Microsoft that would include immersive experiences of meetings at Microsoft Teams as well as integrating popular MS apps such as Word, Excel and more.
Development of Horizon Worlds on the web.
Meta is working with YouTube VR team for entertainment including hosting YouTube watch parties in its virtual real estate VR Homes.
Meta will launch full body avatars soon. These avatars will also be used in video chat with other Meta companies such as Messenger and WhatsApp.
Meta gave a glimpse of its advances in electromyography. These advances would increase control over AR and VR with the help of the wrist.
Project Aria, which is its AR glasses project.
Meta’s Quest Pro is available for pre-sale. It costs $1,499 almost four times the bestseller Meta Quest 2, which is availability for $399. Although it is expensive, as its name suggests, it is primarily for professional use as it will be used to integrate VR in different ways.
The Quest Pro is an advanced device. Meta said that it had innovative features including “high-res sensors” that offered “robust mixed reality experiences,” sharper visuals with “crisp LCD displays” and more. The design was new and sleeker, with “eye tracking and Natural Facial Expressions” that made an avatar reflect a person “more naturally in VR.”
Quest Pro from Meta will enable the use of professional features including
multi-screen display
“magic rooms” that combine VR as well as video participants
workrooms for VR collaboration and more.
In another Celebrity News update Fashion House ParisJewelry.com has started manufacturing new custom line of celebrity jewelry products.
