Hollywood, California patrol officers responded to a report of a male with mental illness on the morning of January 31, 2023. It was discovered over the course of their inquiry that the criteria for criminal threats had been satisfied. LAPD was able to secure search and arrest warrants with the aid of Hollywood Detectives. Several powerful rifles, shotguns, handguns, and a sizable stockpile of various explosives were found while a search warrant was being carried out.
Officers prevented a possible “mass shooting event,” like the Las Vegas shooting officers reported on Twitter. In other states, he has been associated with other investigations that are violent in nature.
On January 31, 2023, in the 1500 block of Gordon Street in Hollywood, California, Braxton Johnson was arrested for criminal threats by Hollywood patrol officers after neighbors claimed he threatened them with physical harm.
A search warrant for his apartment, which resulted in the seizure of three rifles, a shotgun, and three semi-automatic pistols. Detectives are investigating the possession of firearms and their legality in the state of California.

At this point of the investigation, there are no indications that any persons were threatened with a firearm, nor have we identified any intent by Johnson to plan a mass shooting incident.
We are working with our federal partners to exhaust all investigative leads and believe there is no threat to the public. We are also in communication with Johnson’s family to provide any support services needed. Los Angeles resident Braxton Johnson, 24, was taken into custody after evidence was discovered at the site.
