Video footage released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police shows Belgian Malinois K9 Enzo being rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. The scene that unfolded denoted the unwavering dedication of law enforcement officers to protect their own, both human and K9 alike. While bravely attempting to apprehend a murder suspect, Enzo was viciously stabbed multiple times by Thurman Lowe, a 64-year-old individual with a history of violence.
As Enzo’s handler reassured him amidst the chaos, the swift response of the police force ensured that Enzo received immediate medical attention at a veterinary hospital and then was airlifted to another for specialized care. According to reports, Enzo is now on the road to recovery.
The police responded to a call on March 29 that said that Lowe was reportedly inside an apartment with self-inflicted wounds and trying to end his life. When the police arrived, he allegedly refused to cooperate and threateningly approached the officers. This was when Enzo bit Lowe, and the latter reportedly stabbed him several times by the time the officers reached him and took him into custody.
Meanwhile, Lowe faces serious charges, including assault on a protected person and attempting to kill a police animal, among others. The 64-year-old was out on parole after a three-decade sentence for robbery and rape and has been accused of murder as well.
K-9 dogs are canines trained to support law enforcement personnel, including police. They hunt, fight, and protect. K-9s may be tasked with identifying missing persons, recovering evidence from crime scenes, searching for drugs and explosives, defending cops, and fighting criminals.
