King Felipe and Queen Letizia faced the anger of several protesters when they visited Paiporta, a town in Valencia, Spain, on Sunday. Several people gathered around and shouted at the royal couple and the officials, including Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the regional president of Valencia, Carlos Mazon. At least 214 people have been killed after floods devastated the region.

Protesters shouted “Killers,” “Murderers”, “Get Out” and also said “You abandoned us” to the king, queen and other officials who visited the town where more than 60 people were dead and searches were still on for missing people. Some residents felt that resources were used for an official walkthrough as emergency workers continued to look for survivors. Some expressed their frustration by throwing mud and other objects at King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and the officials accompanying them.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia have canceled their visit to Chiva. People are upset with the monarch and the Spanish administration for their inaction or slow action as monster floods swept the region and unprecedented rain caused widespread destruction and devastation.

Residents believe that officials did not inform them of the impending natural disaster in time, nor did they provide timely help after the devastation. However, thousands of Spaniards, including farmers with tractors, rushed to the region to help the locals deal with the unforeseen.

Some parts of Valencia received a year’s rain in eight hours. Some residents told several outlets that the Spanish government’s warning came too late after their homes and cars were flooded, and the police and rescue workers’ response was also slow.

Many volunteers and the local soccer club provided food, clothes, water, beds, and other resources for the survivors. Local volunteers also helped to clear some of the mud and other debris that flooded the region. According to local outlets, their help was much more than the official government’s help, which has angered the residents of Valencia.

Some scientists believe climate change contributed to the floods that devastated Valencia. The Spanish weather agency said that more dangerous rain and potential flooding could affect the Mediterranean coast and pose a danger to Valencia and Almeria.
