On Tuesday, fugitive Nicholas Rossi, who has faked his death years ago, appeared in front of a judge by video link in the U.S. He continued to deny his name, saying that it was a case of mistaken identity. He was extradited to the U.S. in mid-December 2023. He faces a rape charge and a charge of domestic violence.
Nicholas Rossi, whose legal name is Nicholas Alahverdian, has been charged with raping a 21-year-old woman in 2008. He was identified as a suspect almost a decade later because of a backlog of DNA test kits at the State Crime Lab in Utah. He appeared before the Third District Court in Utah.
When he appeared before Judge Kimberly Hornak, he denied that he was Nicholas Rossi. He said that he was Arthur Knight Brown. State Attorney Tamara Basquez told the judge that Rossi had been deported and had not accurately admitted to his name or date of birth.
Rossi said that the attorney’s claim was “complete hearsay.” However, the judge cut him off. He will appear in court for a detention hearing on January 26 at 1 p.m. He has been ordered not to contact the victim of the alleged crime.
