Look out for a change in the Twitter logo on Monday, as early on Sunday, Twitter owner Elon Musk suggested that he would be changing the iconic blue bird symbol of Twitter to X. The tech mogul has a corporation called X so the name is not unexpected. It also bodes for change as the blue bird might be set free after its owner changed. Earlier, Elon Musk had temporarily changed the blue bird symbol of Twitter to a Dogecoin’s symbol of a Shiba Inu dog. However, the new X symbol is expected to be long lasting or even permanent. Web fans have mixed reactions to the change.
On Sunday, July 23, 2023 Elon Musk posted on Twitter, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and gradually all the birds”
A couple of minutes later, he posted, “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make go live worldwide tomorrow”
About an hour later, he posted a short video showing the symbol X. After Musk bought the microblogging platform last year, there have been various changes, some of which have not gone down well with the platform’s web fans.
Musk introduced paid subscriptions, cut the workforce at Twitter by thousands and lost advertisers mainly due to controversial changes in its policies.
Elon Musk has also filed lawsuits and in turn faces lawsuits from former Twitter employees as well as vendors who have not been paid for services rendered before he bought the company for $44 billion in October 2022.
Twitter has also faced a lot of criticism from its web fans when the platform decided to limit the number of tweets that could be read per day by various accounts. This step was a bit of a misstep as it led to millions of web fans gravitating to its closest rival Threads by Meta platform.
The symbol X stands for an unknown factor and only Elon Musk knows the path that will be taken by Twitter, the platform the world’s richest man bought for $44 billion.
