Celebrity Dwayne The Rock Johnson posted a video on social media on Sunday where he updated his web fans about the success of his Maui wildfire fund. The Rock also apologized to web fans who had been upset that he had asked them to contribute to the fund when many of them also lived from “paycheck to paycheck.”

After the devastating wildfires that annihilated large swathes of Maui, Hawaii, celebrity stars Dwayne the Rock Johnson and Oprah Winfrey started the People’s Fund of Maui. They pledged a combined $10 million to help those islanders who were devastated by the August wildfires. The celebrity stars asked people to donate to their fund, in September. They received backlash from some web fans.

In his recent video, Dwayne the Rock Johnson shared that many of those who were residing in Maui had contacted him and thanked him for efforts to assuage their losses. He said that he was gratified by their comments.

In the lengthy video, he also addressed the elephant in the room. He said that he appreciated the straight talk between him and his web fans on social media and that he totally got it.

He said that he knew what it was living from “paycheck to paycheck” and that the last thing such a person wanted to hear was someone asking them for money especially when the person who asked them for money already had “a lot of money.”

He said that he got and understood the message that his web fans had posted earlier and that he was a “quick study and lesson learned.”

Earlier in September, Dwayne the Rock Johnson had addressed the backlash as well when the legend spoke on the Pat McAfee show. The 51-year-old celebrity said that he “could have communicated the message better” and that he would be “better next time.”

The video from Dwayne the Rock Johnson came about six weeks after celebrity friends Dwayne the Rock Johnson and Oprah Winfrey had asked people to donate to their fund.
