Celebrity stand-up comedian and actor Dave Chappelle’s guest hosting appearances following significant election results are reportedly seen as a tradition. On Saturday Night Live, in addition to discussing the midterm elections in his highly anticipated monologue, he also touched on Kanye West and antisemitism. Early in the day, it was reported that Democrats had defied expectations and were poised to keep control of the Senate. Chappelle’s opening monologue on SNL discussed Donald Trump, the midterm elections, and Kanye “Ye” West’s antisemitic remarks.
The comedian opened with a statement that he claimed to have written. GHe said that denounced “antisemitism in all its forms,” and stands with his friends in the Jewish community. He advised West that this was a way to buy himself some time.
Chappelle focused a large portion of his show on West, attacking the rapper and businessman for believing he was untouchable until Adidas, among other companies, fired him due to a string of antisemitic statements made on social media. Adidas was founded by brothers – members of the Nazi party. Ironically, he continued by saying that Nazis formed Adidas and even they were offended.
The comedian also touched on the situation surrounding Kyrie Irving, who was recently suspended from the Brooklyn Nets for a minimum of five games after sharing a link to the antisemitic documentary Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America. After his contentious remarks about the transgender community in his Netflix special The Closer, Chappelle’s choice to host SNL had drawn criticism.
The star mostly focused on Herschel Walker when talking about the midterm elections and how certain news outlets believe the Trump era is finished, but he maintains that is not the case. He continued by claiming that because he lives in Ohio, he has a direct view of Trump’s supporter base and that Trump is greatly adored because people in Ohio have never seen anybody like him.
On November 12, the celebrity comedian served as the program’s third host. When he last served as the show’s host, it was the episode that aired after Joe Biden defeated Trump in the 2020 presidential race. He was running for a second term. Earlier, after Trump won the 2016 presidential election, Chappelle served as the show’s host.
