President Joe Biden gave one of his best performances at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, held on Saturday. He joked about the former president–Donald Trump, who did not attend the event unlike current President Biden, who has a nice sense of humor plus has the confidence to joke at himself, which is indeed rare among powerful men and women. He also joked about the press and the GOP.
President Biden started the comedy routine by saying that it was the first time a president had attended the dinner in six years. He took a swipe at the former president without mentioning him by name, saying that it was understandable as they had a horrible plague, followed by two years of COVID. He added, “Just imagine if my predecessor came to this dinner this year, now that would really have been a real coup if that occurred.”
The president also joked about the audience which had a majority of press members. He said that he was very excited to be with the only group of Americans who had lower approval ratings than him.
Bien also spoke about the somewhat derogatory phrase “Let’s go Brandon” that some of the GOP members used against him. He said, “Republicans seem to support one fellow. Some guy named Brandon. He’s having a really good year. And I’m kind of happy for him.”
The 79-year old president also joked with Trevor Noah, who was the press person chosen to headline the event after the president. Biden said that he had liked being called “America’s new dad” by Noah and he was “flattered anyone would call me a ‘new’ anything.”

Inside the gala, both vaccinations and a negative COVID-19 test was required, on Saturday. He joked about this pointing at Fox News, according to reports by several outlets. Biden said that they were at the event to show the country that the nation was getting through this pandemic. He added that everyone had to prove that they were fully vaccinated and boosted.
He added that if anyone at home, watching the event was wondering how to do that, they just had to contact their favorite Fox News reporter. He said that “They’re all here,” referring to hosts and journalists from the Fox Network. He added, “vaccinated and boosted. All of them.” This joke got resounding applause but is more ironical than funny.
Trevor Noah went on to roast the president, some Republicans and celebrities as well.
