Golden State Warriors standout forward Draymond Green tested his injured left ankle in a 5-on-5 scrimmage Sunday and continues to make progress with the team’s opener against the Phoenix Suns just two days away.

Green is still considered questionable for the opener but he certainly was impressive during the scrimmage in the eyes of Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

“It’s good for him and great for us to have him back,” Kerr told reporters. “He adds such a competitive force to our team and his IQ is off the charts, so even having him in practice going through all the drills, the team benefits from his presence.”

Green sprained the ankle during a pickup game at Chase Center in San Francisco in late September. He missed the entire preseason.

He returned to practice earlier this week and did 3-on-3 work before getting cleared to participate in the scrimmage.

One thing evident to Kerr was Green’s stamina level.

“He needs more work, for sure,” Kerr said.

Green signed a four-year, $100 million deal with the Warriors in the offseason.

Green 33, averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 73 games last season. He shot a career-best 52.7 percent from the field.

Green has career averages of 8.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks in 758 games (608 starts) with Golden State since being a second-round pick (35th overall) out of Michigan State in the 2012 draft.
