Walmart the retail giant Drone delivery is now available in 11 Dallas-area stores, including East Dallas, Garland, Mesquite, Plano, and Richardson.

Walmart’s drone delivery service has arrived in Texas, as part of a plan to expand its drone offering to 4 million additional households across six states.

In partnership with DroneUp, Walmart will offer drone delivery in five other states in addition to Texas by the end of the year – Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Utah, and Virginia – for a total of 34 stores making drone delivery in 23 cities nationwide by year end.

Customers who live within a mile of a participating store can place orders between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at www.droneupdelivery.com. Drones can deliver up to 10 pounds of eligible Walmart items, including fragile items like eggs, in as little as 30 minutes.

There are no minimum order requirements, and the delivery fee is $3.99. (Customers who use drone delivery for the first time will have the delivery fee waived if they use the promo code FreeDeliveryTX.)

The order is delivered using a cable that gently lowers the package into the customer’s yard after the items are packaged and loaded into the drone.

Walmart Vice President Vik Gopalakrishnan says the company is proud to be at the forefront of innovation.

DroneUp, founded in 2016, is a Virginia Beach-based technology company that combines airspace solutions, software applications, and analytics platforms to help businesses operate at scale with drone innovation. Walmart invested significantly in DroneUp in 2021, but they did not specify how much.

“Drone delivery allows our customers to easily shop for those last-minute or forgotten items in a package that’s frankly really cool,” Gopalakrishnan says. “It may appear to be a futuristic option, but it gives our customers what they’ve always wanted: time to focus on what’s most important to them.” Fans are super excited.
