Walmart (WMT) has unveiled a new look for its digital store and app. Customers are expected to be attracted to more products as they will have a bigger and better visual appeal. The newly designed sites will feature different media including photos, videos and content that is inspired by social media. The company wants to engage its customers with easier and more interactive shopping experiences.
After the boom in sales through e-commerce that began during the pandemic and continues to date, Walmart has been improving its online customer experience.
In an interview with Forbes, Tom Ward, executive vice president and chief e-commerce officer said that the company has rolled out “a completely redesigned home page.” The website and the app have been built to be “customer-centric” and will also be a “curated storefront.”
Ward added that the new design will help customers find the items they need very easily. The redesigned site and app would also inspire customers “to shop the hundreds of millions of SKUs” that were available in their “online assortment.”
Ward spoke in detail about the big box retailer’s focus which always resonated with the needs of its customers, and described the new shopping experience on the Walmart site as “engaging, thematic and relevant.”
According to a report in CNBC, Tom Ward also spoke of catching customers’ attention with “fresh, trendy and seasonal items.”
Seasonal items are a big draw at Walmart stores as customers see these items’ displays when they enter stores and engage with them. Walmart is hoping for a similar engagement online.
Ward also told the outlet that the new look of the website and app could have a positive effect on third-party sellers. Sellers who have already joined or would join Walmart’s marketplace in future could see a boost in sales as a result of the redesign.
CNBC reported that Walmart US saw a rise in sales of 17 percent year over year, in its recent holiday quarter. The big box retailer also saw an increase of 12 percent, year over year on full fiscal year results.
