As the holiday season approaches, Walmart is getting ready to bring joy as well as the best deals for its customers. There will be a huge inventory available both online and in-store and the retailer is hiring additional staff to cope with an influx of customers and goods. Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer has said that it will be hiring 40,000 workers to fill both hourly and permanent positions.
Workers will be hired as seasonal store associates as well as customer care associates with possibility of getting permanent roles in the big box retailer’s stores. The company is also hiring full-time permanent truck drivers.
According to the Corporate Walmart site, as is its practice, the retailer will offer additional hours to its associates who wish to avail extra hours in the holiday season. Part-time associates, who are already working at Walmart, can pick up extra shifts. They will given flexibility to schedule their shifts. Following this, opportunities will be given to those who want to earn money, on a temporary basis, by working at the retailer.
Many temporary workers have become permanent ones at Walmart and have also reached corporate heights at the big box retailer. The company says that three quarters of their management team started at the company as hourly associates. They assumed higher roles in stores, clubs and supply chains as they continued to work and grow in the company.
The corporate Walmart site declares that their core culture includes promotions from within the company and cites CEO Doug McMillion and U.S. CEO John Furner as examples of those who have reached the top positions with promotions; after working for years at Walmart.
The average wage at Walmart is more than $17 an hour. Many associates earn more than this wage depending on their role in the company as well as the market. Pharmacy technicians and drivers have also seen an increase in wages as the retailer is looking to expand its fleet.
